2.Types Of Hearing Loss

You might think that hearing loss is simply an increased difficulty in hearing lower-volume noises, but it’s much more complicated than that. There are actually three main types of hearing loss that can affect the average adult:

• 1.Conductive Hearing Loss: Occurs when sound is not conducted well through the outer ear canal into the eardrum and bones of the middle ear. Results in a reduced ability to hear certain sound levels, especially faint ones. Can be corrected medically or surgically.

• 2.Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Occurs due to damage to the cochlea, or inner ear, and its nerve pathways to the brain. Unfortunately, it cannot easily be medically or surgically repaired, and is the most common form of permanent hearing loss.

• 3.Mixed Hearing Loss: A combination of both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss where there is damage to the outer, middle and inner ear or auditory nerve. This hearing loss can be reduced, but not fully repaired.
